Italian Newspaper Rack, Chromed Metal, Rosewood and Faux Leather, 1970s
Italian Newspaper Rack, Chromed Metal, Rosewood and Faux Leather, 1970s
Simple Italian magazine rack from the 1970s, 56 cm high and 41.5 cm wide, with an upright handle made of chrome-plated metal and a solid rosewood grip in deep chocolate brown. Two compartments made of black faux leather are hung over eyelets on the central crossbar and hold magazines, periodicals, or coffee table books.
The frame is made of round, highly polished chrome-plated metal in flowing curves, typical of Italian side furniture of the late 1960s and early 1970s. The rosewood grip shows a clear flame grain and gives the otherwise technical piece a warm, material touch. The construction is firm and stable, with a secure stand.
The combination of chrome, precious wood, and faux leather belongs to the vocabulary of Milan's Brianza furniture during these years and can be found in a related form with designers such as Romeo Rega or Alessandro Albrizzi. The piece does not bear a factory mark — the attribution thus remains limited to the stylistic tradition.
Next to the armchair or at the end of the sofa, the stand fulfills its function and remains subtle enough not to dominate the space. The chrome is in very good condition with no pitting or rust, the rosewood grip shows minimal signs of wear, the faux leather has age-related creases and a small detachment at one eyelet — structurally completely intact.
