Vintage ceramic figurine, sitting Dalmatian, crackle glaze, Italy 1960s/70s

Vintage ceramic figurine, sitting Dalmatian, crackle glaze, Italy 1960s/70s

This glazed ceramic Dalmatian is a charming animal figurine in the style of Italian ceramic art from the 1960s/70s. The dog sits upright with its head slightly raised, the characteristic black-dark blue spots clearly standing out against the shiny white background, while the muzzle is gently tinted orange-brown. The eyes are hand-painted and give the figure an alert, lively expression. The glossy glaze emphasizes the sculptural modeling of the fur, paws, and ears.

Particularly appealing is the fine craquelure structure that extends over the entire glaze surface: a delicate network of hairline cracks, as it forms in glazed ceramics over decades due to natural material tensions between the body and the glaze. This characteristic craquelure is not a defect, but a sign of authenticity – it proves the actual age of the piece and gives it precisely the patina that makes genuine vintage ceramics so sought after by collectors and lovers of the Mid-Century style.

Regarding attribution: The underside of the base only bears the embossed inscription "MADE IN ITALY"; a manufacturer's or factory mark is not discernible. We therefore classify the piece as an unsigned Italian export ceramic object of its time, without naming a specific manufacturer.

The condition is good for its age. In addition to the described, aesthetically pleasing craquelure glaze, no chips, breaks, or repairs are visible.

Dimensions: Height 38.5 cm, Depth 23 cm, Width 18 cm.
