Florentine ceiling lamp with calla glass shades and glass flowers, Italy, vintage, 70s/80s

Large Florentine ceiling lamp from Italy, 1970s to 1980s, made in the tradition of the Florentine workshops that combined hand-formed and painted sheet metal, known as tole, with glass elements. From a round, yellow-painted ceiling rose with a brass-coloured finial unfolds a lavish bouquet: long, sweeping curled leaf ribbons in ochre yellow shading into terracotta and orange tones, covered with fine dark speckling, together with heart-shaped, cream-painted leaves with visible brushwork and slender dark green leaves. Four curved arms each hold a calla-shaped glass shade in a bronze-coloured calyx, in which an internally ribbed cup of white opal glass opens into a wide, wavy flower with a clear glass rim. Two smaller flowers of clear glass with white swirls and brass-coloured stamens complete the composition.

When lit, the calla shades glow an even white, the clear rim traces the outline of each flower as a fine line of light, and the leaf ribbons cast warm reflections and shadows onto the ceiling. Florentine lamps of this kind were made in numerous workshops in and around Florence; no maker's mark or label is known on this example, while construction, painting and glass correspond to typical Italian work of the period. With a diameter of 60 cm and a height of only 17.5 cm, the lamp sits flat and is therefore also suited to rooms with low ceilings, such as a bedroom, hallway or dining room, where it adds a floral accent to classic, Mediterranean or eclectic vintage interiors.

The lamp measures approx. 60 cm in diameter and approx. 17.5 cm in height. It is in very good condition: the four calla shades and the two glass flowers are intact, and the paintwork of the metal leaves is vivid and largely complete, with only minimal age-related traces. The lamp is in working order and designed for four bulbs; as with all vintage lamps, we recommend installation by a qualified electrician. VAT is not shown separately on this sale.
