Bamboo Mirror with Rattan-Wrapped Corners, Riviera Style Wall Mirror, 78 × 50 cm, 1970s

Bamboo Mirror with Rattan-Wrapped Corners, Riviera Style Wall Mirror, 78 × 50 cm, 1970s

Rectangular wall mirror from the 1970s with a frame of sturdy, natural bamboo canes. The canes show their characteristic growth nodes, whose dark rings stand out vividly against the honey-coloured bamboo. A second, slender bamboo rod frames the mirror glass on the inside and gives the frame a stepped depth. At all four corners the joints are wrapped in rattan strips that cross diagonally, creating sculptural and carefully crafted corner accents.

Mirrors of this construction were made in the 1960s and 1970s mainly in Italy and southern France and still define the so-called French Riviera or coastal style, popularised by manufacturers such as Vivai del Sud. There is no maker's or workshop mark, so the attribution is limited to style and period. The back panel is painted dark blue and bears the perforated number L 6632, with a metal loop at the top for hanging. Its medium size suits a hallway, bathroom or bedroom, bringing warmth and natural materials to a mid-century or boho interior.

The mirror measures approx. 78 cm in height, 50 cm in width and 4.5 cm in depth. It is in good to very good condition. The mirror glass is clear and the rattan wrappings are firm; the bamboo shows natural, material-typical drying cracks and light age-appropriate signs of wear.
