V. Nason Murano Sommerso Vase · blue-chartreuse · 1970s · with label
A slender, prismatically cut Murano vase from V. Nason & C., 1970s — and a particularly beautiful example of the island's cut-sommerso tradition. The tall, multifaceted shape thrives on the interplay of the cut facets: light and color refract at the shoulders, the body remains crystal clear inside, while the outer edges and base glow in three rich layers — cobalt blue at the shoulder and neck base, a very light aqua layer in the middle, and an intense chartreuse green at the foot, rising like a flicker from the ground. With a height of 29 cm and a square base of 9 × 9 cm, the vase has an almost sculptural presence; it works equally well on its own as an accent in a glass group or with a single, tall stem.
The Sommerso technique ("submerged") was perfected in Murano in the 1950s and involves layering several sheets of glass in such a way that they fuse into one another as the form is created, without mixing the colors. On the front is the original attached factory label "V NASON & C — MURANO ITALY" with the typical NV monogram — an important authenticity and collector's feature that is rarely preserved on pieces from this workshop. The condition is very good: no chips, no cracks, the cut edges are clean, the polished base has no scratches. The intense depth of color is difficult to capture in photographs — against the light, the vase displays a much more vibrant play between blue and green.
