Tamara Aladin "Bubble" Glass Vase for Riihimäen Lasi Oy, Finland 1970s
Striking blue glass vase, model "Bulle", designed by Tamara Aladin for the Finnish manufacturer Riihimäen Lasi Oy and dated to the 1970s. The clear, almost architectural silhouette and the deep blue, hand-blown glass make the piece a typical representative of Scandinavian glass design of this period – minimalist, precise, and with a calm, collector-oriented presence.
Tamara Aladin (1932–2019) is one of the most influential Finnish glass designers of the 20th century. From 1959 to 1976, she worked for Riihimäen Lasi Oy, one of the most important Finnish glass manufacturers of its time. Her vases combine the geometric clarity of Finnish modernism with strong, often monochrome colors in shades of blue, smoky gray, amber, and green – an aesthetic that is highly sought after internationally today and is in line with designers such as Nanny Still, Helena Tynell, or Erkkitapio Siiroinen.
The "Bulle" model exemplifies this approach: a columnar body with calm volume, clearly defined edges, and a play of light that makes the blue glass appear in varying depths depending on the incidence of light. On a sideboard, console, dining table, or in a display cabinet, the vase acts as an independent sculptural object – equally compelling solo or grouped with other Scandinavian glass pieces. It pairs particularly harmoniously with Mid-Century furniture, teak wood, brass, and minimalist modern interiors.
The condition is excellent. An authentic 1970s Finnish design vase for collectors of Scandinavian glass and lovers of clearly defined design objects.
