Brass & Teak Standing Ashtray in the Style of Carl Auböck, 1950s
Brass & Teak Standing Ashtray in the Style of Carl Auböck, 1950s
An imposing 1950s standing ashtray that takes up the clear design language of the Wiener Werkstätte culture around Carl Auböck, without being signed. A massive, hemispherical brass bowl with a polished top plate and four evenly distributed ash grooves rests loosely on a delicate tripod made of black lacquered round steel in a typical stiletto silhouette. A turned teak handle is firmly connected to the rim of the bowl and serves as a carrying handle for the brass bowl itself - it can be easily lifted out of the ring, carried by the handle for emptying, and reinserted.
The combination of warmly patinated brass, velvety oiled teak, and the graphic black of the steel legs makes the piece a sculptural eye-catcher that can also be reinterpreted as a side table object, candlestick, or jewelry bowl for an entryway. With a total height of 53 cm, a width of 35 cm over the handle, and a base area of around 30 cm, it stands confidently next to an armchair, a sofa set, or a bar cart. Original condition with a beautiful age patina on the brass, all connections firm, perfect stability.
