Sommerso Art Vase Amber & Aubergine in the style of Josef Hospodka for Chribska, 1960s

Sculptural 1960s Sommerso art vase in the distinctive design language of Josef Hospodka, chief designer at the Chribska glassworks in the Bohemian Giant Mountains. The massive glass body features an amber-colored base that transitions upwards into a deep aubergine – both color layers are enclosed as Sommerso within a clear crystal casing. The transition appears like color clouds rising in water, encased and permanently frozen by a clear crystal layer.

The rim, freely pulled from the hot glass with its wave-like extended wings – often called "propeller shape" by collectors – is Hospodka's signature from the 1960s and makes every vase unique, as this "off-hand" technique never allows for two identical pieces. At 27.5 cm high and 15.5 cm in diameter across the extended rim, it is a striking solitary piece for a sideboard, windowsill, or as a centerpiece on a dining table. Without a factory mark, as was common for most Chribska studio pieces of this era; excellent original condition with no chips or scratches.
