Soliflore vase in amber with bubble base, Åseda Glasbruk, Sweden 1960s
Slim soliflore vase made of mouth-blown glass: an amber-colored, upward-extending stem that ends in a wide, plate-like flared rim, and a solid base of colorless clear glass with regularly enclosed air bubbles. This technique, known as "bullicante," makes the base appear as if filled with pearls and gives the delicate shape the necessary weight. In English-speaking countries, this type is referred to as a "bone vase" or "Jack-in-the-pulpit," depending on the shape of the rim.
The vase is attributed to Åseda Glasbruk in Småland, where Bo Borgström was artistic director from 1961 and designed this series of colored stem vases with bubble bases. The factory operated from 1947 to 1977 and exported extensively to Europe, North America, and Australia; in 1975, it became part of the Royal Krona group. Dating: 1960s to early 1970s.
Signature: The base bears the original gold circular label "Made in Sweden" as well as a handwritten number in ink.
Dimensions: Height approx. 25 cm, diameter of the rim approx. 8.5 cm.
Condition: Very good condition. No chips, no cracks, label intact. Fine production-related bubbles and minimal signs of age and use are common characteristics of handcrafted pieces from this period.
