Round mirror with black plastic frame · Space Age, 1970s
The 1970s brought forth a distinct design language in interior design: plastic transformed from an industrial auxiliary material into a full-fledged design material, black and strong bright colors supplanted the wood nuances of the 1960s, and round, sculptural forms characterized furniture and accessories. Mirrors with massively shaped plastic frames—often circular, frequently in black—became a characteristic home object in this decade, bridging Pop and Space Age aesthetics.
The present mirror follows this trend. The frame is made of black plastic and tapers conically forward—a sculptural profile that makes the mirror body protrude from the wall and gives the round shape a sculptural presence. This funnel-shaped framing was typical for the home accessory lines of the era and still makes the mirror effective today as a standalone piece on a wall.
With a diameter of 48.5 centimeters and a depth of just 5 centimeters, the mirror has the size of a classic wall mirror for a hallway, wardrobe, bathroom, or bedroom—compact enough for smaller wall surfaces, yet present enough for its own statement. The mirror surface is flawless, with no foxing or edge oxidation. Very good original condition from the 1970s.
