Roland Rainer Armchair Model 702 for Wilkhahn, 1960s
Armchair Model 702, designed by Roland Rainer for Wilkhahn, dating from the 1960s. The design stands for a clear, minimalist design language and combines functional furniture design with understated elegance — a classic of German-speaking post-war modernism.
Roland Rainer (1910–2004) was one of the most important Austrian architects and urban planners of the 20th century and simultaneously created an independent body of furniture work. His designs appear objective, light, and constructive. Model 702 particularly clearly demonstrates this approach: slender lines, compact proportions, and a structure that deliberately foregoes superfluous details. As a result, the chair can be integrated equally well into modern and classic interiors.
The armchair is in very good to good condition and is a beautiful piece of design history for collectors and lovers of classic post-war furniture. An authentic Wilkhahn original from the 1960s.
