Pair of large chrome table lamps with sphere and cylinder base, in the style of Philippe Barbier, France 1970s

Two large table lamps whose construction shows the clear design language of French Space Age of the 1970s: a solid cylindrical base with a diameter of 16.5 cm supports a fully plastic sphere, mediated by a curved neck, from which a slender, multi-profiled neck rises. All parts are highly polished chrome and reflect the surroundings, so that the lamps change their color depending on their location and daylight. This sphere-on-cylinder silhouette shaped Parisian lamp production of the decade and is still associated with Philippe Barbier and Maison Barbier – a style that combines Space Age and Hollywood Regency.

Above the body are the original, conically cut silk shades in warm ivory, whose matte textile surface softly catches the hard chrome and emits a very pleasant, diffused light. With the shade, the lamps measure 80 cm in height with a 45 cm shade diameter; without the shade, they are 50 cm – a format that truly takes up space on a sideboard, console, or as a pair to the left and right of a sofa. Both lamps are equipped with E27 sockets and have been functionally tested. The condition is good, the chrome is very well preserved; on one sphere, there is a small dent of about 0.5 cm, which can be moved out of sight by simply rotating the sphere.
