Murano Sommerso Vase Blue-Green, Seguso Style, 1960s/70s
This exceptional Sommerso vase, made of thick-walled, hand-blown Italian art glass, impresses with its highly sculptural, free-form silhouette. The clear glass encloses vibrant layers of color in turquoise and cobalt blue, as well as emerald to yellow-green. Depending on the viewing angle, a particularly intense interplay of transparency, depth, and light emerges.
Characteristic is the dynamically curved, multi-pointed rim. The faceted and sculpturally modeled wall emphasizes the craftsmanship and makes the object an impressive eye-catcher even without floral decoration.
The technique is called Sommerso: different colored layers of glass are successively melted into transparent glass without merging. The design language and coloring are reminiscent of works from the surroundings of Seguso Vetri d’Arte and Flavio Poli. Since no signature, engraving, or manufacturer's label is discernible, the attribution is made to Seguso.
An expressive vintage object for a sideboard, console, dining table, or display cabinet – particularly beautiful with a few long branches, but equally effective as a pure glass sculpture.
