Murano Sommerso Splash Bowl, Green and Yellow, with Original Label Remnants, 1960s/70s

Murano Sommerso Splash Bowl, Green and Yellow, with Original Label Remnants, 1960s/70s

Sculptural Murano Sommerso bowl in green and yellow, crafted in one of the Venetian Fornaci on the glass-blowing island of Murano, 1960s to early 1970s. The splash shape is one of the most expressive designs of post-war Muranese glassmaking – four corners pulled up from the central bowl taper upwards, two swinging out almost horizontally, two rising, so that the silhouette resembles a frozen fountain or an opening blossom. The characteristic Sommerso technique embeds an intense emerald green layer of color into a core of golden yellow, transparently blown crystal, and additionally encases both layers with clear rock crystal glass. The result is a three-dimensional play of color that is interpreted differently depending on the light: from above, the rich aqua green dominates, viewed from the side, the yellow core shines through, and in backlighting, the solid corners catch the light as golden-green reflections.

With a side length of 24 cm and a height of 12 cm, the bowl is a prominent standalone piece for a sideboard, console, or dining table – as a fruit bowl, as a pure sculpture, or as an eye-catcher among minimalist decor. Very good vintage condition with no chips or scratches. The original paper label remains as a remnant, documenting its origin from a Murano manufacturer – an important detail for collectors of Venetian art glass.
