Murano Sommerso Kidney Dish — Aubergine-Fuchsia & Cobalt Blue, Flavio Poli for Seguso-Style, 1960s

Hand-formed Murano Sommerso kidney-shaped dish from the 1960s, very close in form and color to the documented color family Ametista-Blu, developed by Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte during his working period 1955–1965 and cataloged in the Seguso company archive under number 12877. The solid glass body features a classic Sommerso layering with an aubergine-fuchsia core color that lightens from the base to the rim into a luminous rosé-violet, and is enclosed at the three flared rim lobes by an intense cobalt-turquoise zone — the color contrast between the warm amethyst core and the deep blue rim flames makes this dish one of the most spectacular Poli color schemes of the period. The three raised rim points are freehand-formed and pincer-folded, with soft shell-shaped rim arches in between — the characteristic Poli/Seguso scodella signature, where the initially circular dish is rolled with pliers into a kidney-shaped freeform with three indentations.

The glass body measures 18.5 cm in length and 15 cm in width with a height of 7.5 cm over the raised rim points — a very pleasant centerpiece format that creates a sculptural presence on a coffee table, side table, console, or as a vide-poche in the hallway, without dominating the space. The Sommerso core is solid and thick — the deep glass layering creates a different optical play of colors from every angle, with aubergine and fuchsia tones glowing warmly during the day, and the cobalt blue rim flames shimmering almost inky in the evening artificial light. Very good original condition: no visible chips, no scratches, the glass crystal clear without cloudiness, the polished-ground base ring at the bottom intact, the Sommerso color play fully preserved. A collectible piece of Italian post-war modernism from the workshop whose Sommerso technique received the Compasso d'Oro in 1954 and which redefined the richness of colors in Murano art glass production after the Second World War.
