Murano Sommerso Freeform Glass Bowl — Petrol & Aubergine, Centerpiece 52 cm, 1960s/70s

This large, free-form glass bowl was probably created in the 1960s or 1970s on Murano and is made in the style of the Seguso workshops, which were known for their characteristic Sommerso technique. There is no signature or label, so the attribution should be understood as a stylistic classification and not as a confirmed manufacturer's statement. The Sommerso technique – Italian for "submerged" – refers to the layered melting of several color runs into a common glass mass, a process that was perfected during this period, especially in the large Murano manufactories.

The asymmetrical, manta-ray-shaped body of the bowl tapers on both sides into long, sweeping points, while the center rises in a small wave crest – a sculptural silhouette typical of free-form Murano glass. The color layering shows a petrol blue core surrounded by a milky-opalescent intermediate layer (Lattimo), before the outermost layer ends in a strong aubergine-violet and condenses to a rich, almost black tone at the extended tips. When held against the light, the glass unfolds a luminous depth that emphasizes the decorative character of the piece.

The condition is very good, without chips, cracks or significant scratches – the bowl is well-maintained for its age and fully presentable. Thanks to its size, it is ideally suited as an eye-catcher on a sideboard, coffee table or as a central table decoration and fits equally well into a mid-century or contemporary interior. The bowl measures 52 cm in length, 22 cm in width and 9 cm in height.
