Mikasa nautilus-shaped shell bowl, green & amber, Walther-Glas, 49 cm, 1980s/90s

This exceptionally large glass bowl in the shape of a shell or nautilus comes from Mikasa glass production and was presumably created by Walther-Glas in Germany, where Mikasa had its glass series manufactured for decades—corresponding pieces are marked with "MIKASA W. Germany," "Walther Kristallglas," or "Original Walther Glass." The shell form is part of the established repertoire of this production and is known from the "Clearwater Nautilus" series, among others. There is no label or signature on this particular example, which is why the manufacturer attribution should be understood as a reasoned assignment rather than a confirmed marking.

The thick-walled body is shaped into a wide spiral that terminates at one end in a solid, plastically turned snail volute, while on the opposite side, five jagged wave crests and a long, elongated tip emerge—a dynamic, sculptural silhouette that resembles an open shell or a frozen wave. Instead of the usual clear glass, this piece features a rare colored execution: a cool, smoky gray-green at the volute transitions through a light celadon green into a warm, honey-colored amber tone at the points and tip, while the edges deepen into a dark bottle green. In grazing and backlight, the color gradients trace the spiral movement of the glass.

The condition is very good, with no chips, cracks, or significant scratches—the bowl appears well-maintained and fully presentable. Thanks to its size, it is ideally suited as an eye-catcher on a sideboard, coffee table, or dining table and can also be used as a decorative fruit, pastry, or buffet bowl; it fits into a vintage interior just as well as a contemporary setting. The bowl measures 49 cm in length, 25 cm in width, and 6.5 cm in height.
