Bronze chandelier, brutalist, 8-light, Italy, 60s/70s
Bronze chandelier, brutalist, 8-light, Italy, 60s/70s
An impressive eight-light chandelier made of solid cast bronze in a distinctly brutalist style, presumably Italy, 60s/70s. The rough, wood-grain-like textured surface of the central column and the arm mounts deliberately contrasts with the smoothly polished, curved S-shaped candle arms – a characteristic design principle of Italian bronze foundries of that period. Eight dagger/star-shaped decorative tips are arranged around the central, ribbed vase column, a typical brutalist motif oscillating between sculpture and lighting fixture.
The eight arms terminate in bell-shaped, also textured sleeves, each with a candle holder (E14); matching the body, the suspension chain is also made of bronze with the same structured finish, as is the funnel-shaped ceiling canopy.
Dimensions: Lamp body height 33 cm, diameter 52 cm, total height with chain to canopy 85 cm.
Condition: very good condition, no visible breaks or repairs, beautiful uniform age patina on the bronze.
An imposing statement piece for dining rooms, stairwells, or lofts – ideal for collectors of Mid-Century and brutalist design from Italy.
