Im Stil von Carl Auböck
Carafe with 5 glasses, green leather & brass, Carl Auböck style, 1950s/60s
Carafe with 5 glasses, green leather & brass, Carl Auböck style, 1950s/60s
This six-piece drinks set consists of a tall, slightly conical jug in colourless clear glass and five matching tumblers. Jug and glasses each wear a sleeve of dark green smooth leather, hand-stitched with a light contrast seam. Design and execution correspond to the well-known leather and glass carafes of the Viennese workshop of Carl Auböck, which in the 1950s combined glass, leather and brass into understated everyday objects. There is no signature or mark on this set, which is why we deliberately offer it as a piece in the style of Carl Auböck rather than as a confirmed workshop piece.
On the jug, a teardrop-shaped bow handle in solid brass is set into the leather sleeve, held by a separately stitched leather tab. The sleeve sits at mid-height and gives a secure grip when pouring, while the drawn-out spout pours cleanly. On the glasses the leather band sits roughly in the middle and is closed at one point with a short visible seam, leaving the clear glass free above and below. The interplay of green leather, warmly gleaming brass and clear glass is typical of the reduced Viennese design of the post-war years.
The set is suited to water, lemonade, martini or cocktails and doubles as a decorative object on a bar, sideboard or dining table, fitting a mid-century or vintage interior as well as a minimalist, modern setting. The jug measures 23 cm in height and 10.3 cm in diameter, the glasses are 9 cm high with a diameter of 6 cm. The set is in good vintage condition with age-appropriate signs of use; the leather shows a light patina and the brass handle a natural patina of age.
