Italian stool with wickerwork, 1960s — red lacquered wooden frame
An Italian stool from the 1960s with clear, folk-inspired design. Four turned wooden legs with fine ring milling are connected by continuous cross struts to form a rectangular frame, measuring 47.5 cm in width, 35.5 cm in depth, and 37.5 cm in height. The wood is painted in a strong, rich red and thrives on the contrast with the light natural seat.
The seat consists of hand-woven raffia, classically crafted in a geometric pattern and tightly stretched after decades of use. This combination of rustic turned wood and natural weave belongs to the long Italian tradition of small seating furniture, as it was used for centuries in households, by fireplaces, in kitchens, and in front of workbenches — reinterpreted in the 1960s with strong paint colors.
The piece is suitable as a footstool next to a lounge chair, as an additional seat in a kitchen or hallway, as a small side table next to a low bed, or as a colorful accent in an otherwise understated interior. Its compact dimensions also make it usable in small rooms. Condition: overall very good, the raffia weave is stable and complete, the red lacquer shows only slight age-related signs of wear.
