Italian Bamboo Rattan Stool in the style of Franco Albini for Bonacina, Round Sunburst Seat, 1960s

A light, airy stool made of peeled bamboo and rattan, as it shaped Italian Riviera living culture in the early 1960s — four tapered bamboo legs with an X-shaped cross brace, a double-layered ring of bent rattan, and above it the characteristic sunburst seat, in which narrow rattan rods are radially bound around a central circular weave. The honey-colored patina is even, the bindings at the leg joints are tight and without tears — a piece that works just as well indoors as it does on the loggia.

With a diameter of 47 cm and a seat height of 40 cm, the stool can be used as a side seat, footrest, or a place to store books and newspapers; formally, it stands in the tradition of bamboo and rattan furniture that Franco Albini developed for Vittorio Bonacina from the late 1950s onwards, and which was continued in parallel by Tito Agnoli and Pierantonio Bonacina. The condition is good with age-appropriate patina, without breaks in the rings or legs; the seat is intact all around.
