Horst Dahlbeck Brutalist Bronze Candelabra, 5-arm, Gilde Handwerk, 1960s
Horst Dahlbeck Brutalist Bronze Candelabra, 5-arm, Gilde Handwerk, 1960s
Sculptural bronze candlestick by Horst Dahlbeck, made for Gilde Handwerk, Germany, 1960s. The fan-shaped silhouette with five arms elegantly leaning outwards is one of the most expressive forms of German Brutalism – the sculptor and metal designer worked the massive bronze casting in such a way that the rough, hammered surface of the arms and the boat-shaped, flared base create a fascinating unity of weight and movement. The dark, honey-warm bronze patina highlights the craftsmanship of sand casting and makes the object a collector's item that functions as a small sculpture even without candles.
With a width of approx. 27 cm, a height of 18 cm and a depth of 9 cm, and weighing around 2.5 kg, the stand is pleasantly proportioned for a dining table, sideboard or console; the felt base protects high-quality furniture surfaces. The original Gilde Handwerk label is preserved – an argument, as it clearly proves the manufacturer's origin. Very good vintage condition with the natural patina that develops on bronze over decades.
