WGP floor vase with popcorn glaze, hand-thrown, Germany 1960s

WGP floor vase with popcorn glaze, hand-thrown, Germany 1960s

A slender floor vase with a rich stage presence: 38 cm high, cylindrically shaped, covered with a popcorn or crater glaze that shimmers with sandy beige and honey-warm tones. The surface looks like fossilized sea foam – thousands of small craters in which the light refracts. In contrast, the recessed neck is glazed in deep black, adding visual tension to the vase.

On the base, next to the inscription "handgedreht" (hand-turned), there is an embossed coat-of-arms stamp, such as those used by smaller South German workshops in the 1960s. The craftsmanship is evident in the fine turning marks inside the neck and in the color gradients of the reactive glaze. With a diameter of 14.5 cm and its slender silhouette, the vase works equally well as a sculptural object on its own, or with a single long-stemmed branch or dried pampas plume.
