Gräflich Ortenburg Jug Vase 619, Designed by Ursula Beyrau, yellow-orange Fat Lava, 1960s/70s

Bulbous jug vase by Gräflich Ortenburgsche Steingutmanufaktur Tambach, model 619, designed by Ursula Beyrau, 1960s to early 1970s. Measuring 16 cm wide, 15 cm deep, and 14 cm high, the form combines a flattened spherical shape with a short cylindrical neck and a wide round strap handle—one of the iconic jug vases of West German stoneware production, compact enough for a side table and expressive enough as a standalone piece on a sideboard. The glaze is a vibrant orange-yellow ground, over which a deep black to dark brown fat lava drip glaze runs in dense crater formations. The interplay of warm sun yellow and dark crusty texture makes the vase a prime example of the Fat Lava technique, developed in the post-war manufactories of the Höhr-Grenzhausen and Tambach regions.

Embossed on the underside is the coat of arms of the Counts of Ortenburg with a crown above, and below it the model number 619—clear proof of origin that unequivocally assigns the vase to the Ortenburg manufactory and clearly distinguishes it from the many unmarked Fat Lava vases of the era. Very good vintage condition: glaze intact, no chips, no hairline cracks, foot rim clean. The vase is suitable as a collector's item for enthusiasts of German post-war ceramics as well as a sculptural interior object for homes in the Mid-Century Modern style or warm earth-tone interiors of 1970s retro aesthetics.
