George Nelson — Vitra Design Museum Catalogue Raisonné, 2008

Extensive exhibition catalog and catalog raisonné on George Nelson (1908–1986), published by the Vitra Design Museum on the occasion of his 100th birthday in 2008. The volume is the first comprehensive German-language publication on the life and work of this central American designer of the 20th century.

George Nelson shaped American post-war design in several roles: as an architect, author, journalist, lecturer, exhibition curator, photographer, and above all as the long-time Design Director at Herman Miller. In this capacity, he was instrumental in the development of modern office design and in the selection of influential furniture designs by Charles and Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi, and Alexander Girard.

The volume contains eight essays by German and American design historians, an illustrated catalog raisonné, and numerous previously unpublished images from Nelson's estate (Vitra Design Museum Archive). With 351 pages, the book is an important reference work for collectors, design historians, and lovers of American design history. Very good condition.

Dimensions: 351 pages.
