Erwin Eisch Studio Glass Vase, iridescent with feathering decor, signed "Eisch 80", Frauenau 1980

A large studio glass vase by Erwin Eisch from 1980, whose shape rises from a full, drop-shaped body into a long, gently curved neck and ends at the top in a widely flared funnel mouth. Over the opalescent lilac-colored glass body lies Eisch's characteristic "feather stroke" technique: wafer-thin threads drawn upwards and in arcs with a comb while hot, creating a feather-like pattern reminiscent of peacock eyes. The entire surface bears a delicate iridescent luster, which changes between silver-grey, rosé, and violet depending on the light, while the rim of the mouth is accentuated with a strong, almost black overlay in deep wine red – a deliberately set counterpoint to the light body. Erwin Eisch, born in Frauenau in 1927 and one of the founders of the European studio glass movement, used this technique to adopt the formal vocabulary of Art Nouveau and translate it into a free, artistic style.

With a height of 39.5 cm and a diameter of 12.5 cm, the vase is an object with a true spatial presence, standing alone or with a single tall branch on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or console, without needing additional staging. The base shows the ground-off pontil mark and the incised signature "Eisch 80", which clearly dates the piece. The condition is very good, without chips or cracks, the delicate rim of the mouth is completely intact.
