Dümler & Breiden "Studio" Waved Ridge Vase 053/27 — Smoke Ochre & Cobalt, Hand-Thrown, West Germany 1960s
From Dümler & Breiden's early "Studio" line: a hand-thrown ovoid vase with an organically raised wave crest mouth, which wells up from the body in four soft peaks and is glazed deep black on the inside. The matte, silky smoky body bears a speckled ocher-copper brown glaze, into which cobalt blue clouds and silver-grey flecks are embedded in such a way that the object reads differently from every viewing angle - sometimes landscape, sometimes fossil, sometimes cloud formation.
The model number 053/27 is impressed, along with the D&B studio mark; the piece measures 28 cm in height and 22 cm in diameter and is in very good condition without chips, cracks or hairline cracks. This studio series was the experimental design line of the Bad Ems factory from the late 1950s onwards and is now considered one of the most sought-after West German post-war studio ceramics - suitable as a solitaire on a sideboard, console or mantelpiece, where the wave crest opening unfolds its effect frontally.
