Dümler & Breiden "Studio" Waved Ridge Vase 053/27 — Smoke Ochre & Cobalt, Hand-Thrown, West Germany 1960s
From Dümler & Breiden's early "Studio" line: a hand-thrown ovoid vase with an organically raised wave-crest rim, emerging from the body in four soft points and glazed deep black on the inside. The matte, silky, smoky body features a speckled ochre-copper-brown glaze, into which cobalt blue clouds and silver-gray flecks are embedded in such a way that the object reads differently from every angle — sometimes a landscape, sometimes a fossil, sometimes a cloud formation.
The model number 053/27 is debossed, along with the D&B Studio factory mark; the piece measures 28 cm in height and 22 cm in diameter and is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, or hairline cracks. This Studio series was the experimental design line of the Bad Ems factory from the late 1950s onwards and is now considered among the most sought-after West German post-war studio ceramics — suitable as a solitaire on a sideboard, console, or mantelpiece, where the wave-crest opening unfolds its effect frontally.
