Dirk van Sliedregt (1920–2010, also known as "van Sliedrecht") is considered one of the defining voices of Dutch post-war furniture design. A furniture maker, interior designer, and lecturer rolled into one, he taught, among other places, at the Rietveld Academy and headed the Kampen Art Academy. From 1949 onwards, he began researching rattan as a furniture material — initially for Gebroeders Jonkers, and later also for Rohé Noordwolde. This creative phase produced around 250 furniture designs that made Dutch rattan design internationally renowned.

Rohé Noordwolde, founded in 1919 in Noordwolde, Friesland, developed into the largest rattan manufacturer in the Netherlands. Until its closure in 1997, pieces were created there that are now considered classics of Dutch Mid-Century design. Genuine Rohé chairs can be recognized by their flowing, rounded rattan lines and the absence of fine reeds in favor of full-bodied rattan.

The present chair follows this tradition. The frame is constructed from bamboo, while the seat and backrest are crafted from hand-woven rattan. The backrest features the characteristic curved pattern that gives the pieces their typical boho aesthetic and showcases the craftsmanship of the "Rietvlechter" (rattan weavers). Each chair from this production is unique due to the manual weaving process, exhibiting subtle variations.

Original condition from the 1950s. A documented piece of Dutch furniture design, suitable as a standalone piece in a living room or bedroom, as well as a sculptural seating object in lounge, gallery, or studio settings.
