Chrome Wire Cage Table Lamp in the style of Max Sauze, Space Age France/Italy 1970s

A sculptural table lamp from the French-Italian Space Age era around 1970: the base is designed as a chromed wire cage, whose vertical rods converge at the top to a narrow lamp holder platform and splay out at the bottom to a sun-wheel-like base plate. The principle directly quotes the chrome wire furniture and lamps that Max Sauze designed in France around 1970 for the publishing houses Group, Forum and Isocèle — a radical reduction to line and volume, where the lamp, when switched off, stands in the room like a graphic drawing. Against the wall, the base looks like a cage; in grazing light, like a sun disc.

With a height of 63 cm and a base diameter of 45 cm, the base has a significant presence in the room — much more of a statement than a bedside lamp, suitable for a sideboard, a console or as a solitary accent next to an armchair. The E27 socket is functional and equipped with a renewed black textile cable including an in-line switch. The current textile shade with a black and cream fern leaf pattern is a later addition and can be supplied on request; for a look true to the 1970s, a cylindrical-conical natural linen shade with an upper diameter of approx. 45 cm is recommended. The condition of the chrome base is very good with a light patina on individual rods, typical for its age.
