Chřibská / Josef Hospodka Freeform Bowl, Amber-Orange, Bohemia 1960s

A free-formed, sculptural glass bowl from Chřibská Sklárna in Northern Bohemia — designed in the style of Josef Hospodka, who shaped the design language of this workshop as chief designer from 1958 to 1970. The brightly amber-orange glass body was hot-formed freely, with four raised, wavy corners and a central, star-shaped ribbed bottom, whose thick-walled loops appear like liquid amber lenses in incident light. From above, the bowl opens like a stylized blossom or a four-pointed star; viewed from the side, the raised corners are reminiscent of unfolded wings. The glass is heavy and thick-walled, with a clear outer casing layer that makes the inner amber tones glow deeper and warmer as if through an amber lens.

The bowl measures 23 cm in width, 15.5 cm in depth, and 11.5 cm in height. Condition very good: the glass is free of chips and cracks, the polished base without significant scratches, the free-formed corners cleanly shaped and without rim irregularities. On a console or sideboard, it acts as an independent glass sculpture; functionally, it can be used as a decorative bowl for fruit, a tray for keys and small objects, or a candle holder for thick pillar candles. A collector's item from the most important era of the Chřibská workshop, whose Freeform series is still sought after in the Mid-Century glass market.
