Chribska Sommerso Triangle Bowl Cranberry, attributed to Josef Hospodka, 1960s

A sculptural Sommerso bowl, its triangular base with three gently extended points stands in the room like an open, unfurling blossom. The body displays a rich, warm cranberry red, thickly cast in a transparent crystal casing that focuses the depth of color and allows it to shimmer between cherry, fuchsia, and deep wine red depending on the incidence of light. The design language – a flat base, gently upward-curving segments, three asymmetrically extended points – is one of the characteristic Sommerso vocabularies with which the Chřibská Sklo Union in North Bohemia gained international attention in the 1960s under the hand of Josef Hospodka.

With a span of 27.5 cm between two points and a height of 10.5 cm, the bowl is intended as a solitaire, not as a utilitarian object. It works most powerfully freestanding on a light sideboard, as the center of a side table, or in a display cabinet against a neutral background, where the Sommerso play of colors gets the full stage. The thick, hand-blown glass has a noticeable weight in the hand, the base is ground flat, and the surface shows the fine tool marks of a freely handcrafted form. The condition is very good, no chips, no cracks.
