Chřibská cranberry-pink Sommerso bowl with four crystal prongs, attributed to Josef Hospodka, 1960s
Sculptural Sommerso centerpiece bowl in vibrant cranberry pink with clear crystal tips and a green accent in the base, blown at the Bohemian Chřibská Sklo in Northern Czechoslovakia, 1960s — very likely a design by chief designer Josef Hospodka, whose design language the piece embodies in every line. The classic Chribska splash form rises from the deep basin with four high-standing points to clear, colorless crystal tips, while the core layer in the Sommerso technique is encased as a strong cranberry-magenta color body in a clear crystal mantle. At the base transition, the characteristic light green color reflection appears, which Hospodka used in his 1960s series as a counterpoint to the warm cranberry core layer. With a width of 29.5 cm, a depth of 18 cm, and a height of 13 cm, the bowl has the large-format centerpiece size for the dining table, sideboard, or console — as a luminous eye-catcher, a representative fruit bowl, or a sculptural solitaire that stands on its own even when empty.
Very good vintage condition: no chips, no scratches, the crystal clear and without cloudiness, the cranberry color shines unbroken. The bowl was freehand blown and pulled into the splash form; all four points are evenly raised and intact. A collectible piece of Czech Mid-Century art glass, whose sculptural power and chromatic presence made the Chribska workshops known far beyond Bohemia.
