Carl Auböck Glass Decanter with Leather and Brass, Austria 1950s
This rare glass carafe was designed by Carl Auböck in the 1950s. It combines glass, red leather, and brass to form a serene, clearly constructed object that showcases the typical style of the Auböck workshop in Vienna.
Carl Auböck (1900–1957) is considered a central figure in Austrian Mid-Century design. The Auböck workshop is known for high-quality brass objects and for combining brass, leather, wood, and glass into items that bridge the gap between functional objects and small design pieces. This carafe exemplifies this approach: a functional vessel that gains a unique, very personal touch through the combination of materials.
The leather strap is removable, allowing the carafe to be presented both with and without the leather handle. It is in very good original condition and is suitable for a collection of Austrian design as well as a sculptural object on a bar, sideboard, or credenza.
Dimensions: Height 25 cm, diameter top rim 12 cm, diameter base 9 cm.
