Clear, thick-walled Splash bowl, European glass art, 1970s
Clear, thick-walled Splash bowl, European glass art, 1970s
Formed from clear crystal glass, this bowl rests on the surface like a frozen drop of water. Five to six points grow organically from the thick-walled body, each one bulging, asymmetric yet balanced. The interplay with light is everything here: in sunlight, the light refracts at the edges; in partial shade, the glass becomes a cool, tranquil volume.
With its dimensions of 24 × 18.5 cm and 8 cm height, it sits confidently on a console, dining table, or sideboard — as a vide-poches for keys and jewelry, as a fruit bowl for a few lemons, or simply as a sculptural solo object. The form is typical of European glass art of the late 1960s and 1970s, when workshops in France, Belgium, Italy, and the former Czechoslovakia shaped this dramatic splash style.
