Artifort "Hello There" Chair, Jeremy Harvey, chrome-plated, 1978

Artifort "Hello There" Chair, Jeremy Harvey, chrome-plated, 1978

Sit down and the chair greets you: the word "Hello" is cut out of the backrest, and "There" from the seat — a play on words in aluminum that has been one of the most iconic Pop Art statements in Dutch design since 1978. Jeremy Harvey, at the time one of the young designers in the circle of Nel Verschuuren, Bruno Ninaber van Eyben, and Gijs Bakker, designed the chair for Artifort as a conscious play with language, seating surface, and sculpture. The name is not just spoken — it is "sat out." The manufacturer's logo "Artifort" is embossed in the cast aluminum at the bottom, a clear and undeniable proof of authenticity.

The version presented here is the rare chrome-plated variant — most Hello There Chairs were powder-coated in white, black, or red; the chrome variant is significantly rarer on the market and more sought after by collectors. With a height of 80 cm, a width of 38 cm, and a depth of 43 cm, the chair fits as a solitaire in a hallway, home office, or dining room, and can also be grouped in pairs or fours. All four glides are present. The chrome shows the typical age patina of over forty years in individual places — small areas with slight chrome loss, which are clearly documented in the pictures. There are no static defects; the chair is fully functional and in good original condition.
