Posse 93“ in pencil below the image. At the centre of the landscape-format composition stands a veiled figure, surrounded by concentric orbits, diagonal rays and two glowing spheres, while a radiating disc opens behind its head like a halo. Gold and ochre yellow, cobalt and grey-blue, rust orange, terracotta and a deep brownish violet dominate the picture. The colours are layered as translucent glazes and in many places allow a metallic, shimmering ground to show through, so that the scene seems to hover between cosmic vision and quiet devotion.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWolfgang Posse was born in 1933 in Böhringen, Saxony, trained as a decorative painter and attended the gilders' school in Waldheim before studying stage design and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg from 1953 to 1960. From 1960 he worked as a freelance artist in Nuremberg, from 1972 to 2012 in Tennenlohe and finally in Igensdorf. He became known above all for silver etching, a technique that only a few artists still mastered: in a lengthy working process he applied pure, translucent glazes onto a silver ground. This work, too, is executed as a silver etching. Works by Posse can be found in churches, hospitals, corporate collections and private ownership.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe image measures 15.5 x 11 cm and is float-mounted on a white mat with a terracotta inner edge, the dark, finely grained wooden frame with gold inner moulding measures 29 x 23.5 cm. The work is in good vintage condition. The edges of the sheet are slightly irregular, the right and lower margins show fine hairline cracks in the paint layer and a few tiny losses, and the frame shows light, age-related signs of wear. A portrait-format silver etching by Posse from 1991 in the same size is also available in the shop and pairs well with this work.
