Each support consists of a sturdy block of solid walnut wood set onto a right-angled sheet of brass, the flat base of which slides under the books, holding them securely in place through their own weight. The undersides of the brass and wood are lined with fine felt so that the bookends sit steadily and do not scratch delicate shelves or furniture surfaces. There is no manufacturer's mark; however, the construction and choice of materials are consistent with the desk and shelf accessories produced in Germany and Scandinavia during those years.

The wooden blocks have a softly rounded top edge and gently rounded side edges, giving the bookends a pleasantly soft and tactile feel despite their clean basic shape. The honey-warm, vividly striped grain of the walnut with its dark veins creates a beautiful contrast to the golden-brown patinated brass. It is precisely this restraint that makes the pair so versatile: it holds coffee table books on a sideboard, organizes notebooks and catalogs on a desk, or adds a warm accent between ceramics and glass on a bookshelf.

Each bookend measures 11.4 cm in width and 15.5 cm in height. Both are in very good condition with a natural, age-appropriate patina on the brass, intact felt lining, and only minimal signs of wear on the wood. The price is for the pair.
