Kedelv, who trained at Orrefors under Simon Gate and Edward Hald, shaped the image of post-war Swedish art glass with his layered Coquille pieces, which are collected internationally today. Form, colour layering and execution correspond to typical Coquille bowls; however, no signature can be found on this piece, which is why we deliberately phrase the attribution with caution.

The bowl has a boat-like shape: both ends sweep far upwards and finish in a thickened, clear-edged rim, while the centre sinks deep and calm. Inside, a deep cobalt to ultramarine blue gathers and transitions towards the edges through a pale, milky zone into clear glass. From the outside, the light intermediate layer gives the wall a dense, luminous sky blue, enclosed in a substantial casing of clear glass. The oval base is ground flat and satin-finished.

As a fruit bowl, catch-all or free-standing glass object on a sideboard, dining table or windowsill, the bowl shows to best advantage in backlight, when the blue seems to glow from within, and suits a Scandinavian-influenced Mid-Century interior as well as a contemporary setting. It measures 37 cm in length, 11 cm in width and 8.5 cm in height and is in very good condition; a few production-related inclusions are visible in the glass, and the base shows only fine, age-appropriate signs of use.

https://artfillsspace.com/en/products/flygsfors-coquille-schale-blau-klarglas-paul-kedelv-37-cm-1950er-60er
